He then studied at the Imperial Academy of Arts in Saint Petersburg.§ From 1873-76, Repin traveled to Italy and Paris at the Academy’s expense. His exposure to the French Impressionists had a lasting effect on his use of color and light.§ In 1878, Repin joined the “Association of Peredvizhniki Artists”.
